She was the first woman pilot to reach 14,000 feet in an airplane.

The first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and the first to fly nonstop from coast

to coast across the continental U.S., and she would have been the first woman to circumnavigate

the globe by airplane had she not disappeared during her final trip.

But this story isn't about her.

It's about the woman who came before her.

The one who, in all respects, paved the way for women like Amelia Earhart to prove their
