the disappearance of 24-year-old Shannon Gilbert.

Shannon, a sex worker, disappeared in May of that same year after fleeing from a client's home and making a 23-minute-long 911 call in which she told the operator,

They are trying to kill me.

A month after she vanished, the Suffolk County Police Department's Missing Persons Bureau asked Officer John Malia to search for the young woman with his trained cadaver dog.
