It was late April, 2011, in an attic room of an ordinary flat on an ordinary street called

Meadowwood Road in West Kilbride, northern Scotland. A 27-year-old woman named Linda Spence was

duct taped to a leather chair, unable to move or scream.

Linda had disappeared without a trace, and no one had any idea what was happening to her.

Her family and friends knew that she had been dealing with some shady people

and thought that she might be hiding from them.

They had no idea that Linda had been kidnapped, grabbed right off the street in

Glasgow on October 14, 2011. Linda's kidnappers took her back to that grotty flat, and then

the man who led the pack pulled out a toolbox, the one he called the torture kit. He started

pulling out sharp instruments,

surgical tape, and vinyl gloves.

Linda had no idea of the horrific links

that the men she had been dealing with would go to

to get their money back.

But she was about to find out.

This is Red Collar. Linda Spence was born in 1983 in Glasgow. Her parents, Patricia and Jim Smith, later talked to the press in very emotional appeals, trying to get any

information they could that could help bring their daughter home. Her mom, Pat, said in court

that she and Linda were like best friends. The express newspaper that covered the court case

later wrote that Pat described their relationship by saying, quote, I heard from her every day. I was very

overprotective, a bit of a nutcase mother, end quote. This closeness continued even after Linda
