some looking for a quiet place to settle into,

while others are looking for a wild party town.

But many are simply in search of a spot to disappear from the lives they once lived.

William Dayton Holbert, also known as Wild Bill, was an American expat who landed in Boca Del Toro with his partner, Laura Michelle Reese.

The couple had a lot to hide.

They were fugitives from the states.

From their native North Carolina, they began with petty cons and real estate scams.

After one went sideways, they fled across America, out running police in Wyoming, and armed with

fake passports, soon hopped on a cruise ship to Central America.

With new identities identities they introduced themselves as Bill and

Jane Cortez. As their money ran low, they steamed, robbed, and murdered six fellow ex-patts, maybe more.

We just don't know.
