Hey I'm Brian Hyatt and this is Rolling Stone Music Now. I have with me Jeffi

Haza and Simon Vosick Levinson and we're going to talk about DMX great artist who died at the age of 50 and

we're going to look back at his career and kind of just get into what made him important, what made him interesting, which was a lot.

He was a fascinating, complicated, gifted, troubled artist.

They had a lot of sides to him.

It's pretty interesting to go back to the music,

to go back to his life story,

and just we remembered what a complex dude he was. Jeff you heard a great piece about

DMX. Maybe you can kind of just sum up some of what you said there and some of how you see

him in context.

Yeah, I mean, I think as you said, you know,

he's obviously a really complex figure

within the world of music and within hip-hop as well.

And it's always funny in situations like this for me because I'm relatively young in comparison to most of the people who I think spoke out the most about him.

You know, when DMX was really first coming out, I was like five or six years old.

And even then, even still, still you know I have such vivid memories of those

songs kind of raining everywhere I went and as I got older and as I got into teenage years

adolescents college years, you know,

looking at someone like DMX and looking at his legacy

has been so interesting for me, particularly

as someone who's interested in the ways

in which celebrity functions in our culture and in our society and I think
