I'm Jeffrey Rosen, President and CEO of the National Constitution Center, and welcome to We the People, a weekly show of constitutional debate.

The National Constitution Center is the only institution in America chartered by Congress to disseminate information about the U.S. Constitution on a nonpartisan basis.

Today we bring you John Meacham, one of the country's leading presidential biographers,

who recently discussed his blockbuster new biography

of President George H.W. Bush with Ryan Liza of the New Yorker, all at the National Constitution

Center.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the National Constitution Center.

What a wonderful crowd this is.

I am Jeffrey Rosen, the president of this superb institution, which is, I saw you

started to do it, the only institution in America chartered by Congress to

disseminate information about the US Constitution on a non-partisan basis.

Beautiful, absolutely.

And it is hard to think of a figure who better embodies

that nonpartisan tradition of the National Constitution Center,

then our former chair, President George H.W. Bush

President Bush was succeeded by President Bill Clinton

as chair of the National Constitution Center.

They both received the Liberty Medal together, and together their patriotic commitment to the

Constitution and the Constitution Center is embodied in the George H. W. Bush

gallery downstairs, where you can visit it, and I hope many of you

have, and you can see rare copies of the Declaration of Independence,

the first public printing of the Constitution, and one of the 12 original copies of the Bill of Rights.
