I'm Jeffrey Rosen, president and CEO of the National Constitution Center, and welcome to We The People, a weekly show of constitutional debate.

The National Constitution Center is the only institution in America chartered by Congress to

on today's show we remember Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who passed away on February 13th.

In his nearly 30 years on the court, Justice Scalia was a passionate advocate for originalism and textualism and he

transformed the terms of constitutional debate more than almost any other

justice in the 20th century.

Here to reflect on Justice Scalia's life and legacy are two of his former clerks

and two legal giants in their own right.

Lawrence L. L. L. L.. Furman Professor of Law and Leadership

at the Harvard Law School, and he clerked for Justice Scalia

in 1990 and 1991.

Stephen Calabrasi is the Clayton J and Henry R. Barber Professor of

Law at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and he clerked for Justice Scalia in 1987 and 1988.

Steve, you founded the Federalist Society in 1982, and Justice Scalia played a central role in the founding of the

Federalist Society. Tell us about his role and how he influenced that event.

Yes, Justice Scalia played an absolutely central role in the founding in the Federal Society.

He was as a faculty member at the University of Chicago Law School, the faculty advisor to the

Chicago chapter of the Federalist Society.
