I know you haven't heard my voice before but I'm Dan, the creator of Stories Podcast

As you may know, February is Black History Month, so I wanted to come on and read to you

one of my favorite stories of all time, starring one of the great African American heroes

of Legend, John Henry, the steel driving man.

Now the legend of John Henry is an American tall tale.

African tall tales are sort of like myths or fairy tales, but they're unique to the American

West and they're an essential part of modern American folklore.

Other tall tales you may have heard of are Paul Bunyan, his big blue ox, named Babe,

or Pecos Bill, the man who tamed the Wild West.

Now some people say the legend of John Henry is true, others say it's exaggerated and others

say it's completely made up.

But I'll leave that up to you to decide.
