And this Son, with whom the Pharisees and scribes are so clearly identified, should have

brought them face-to-face with themselves, and their complete ignorance of the Father, whom

they said they served.

The parable of the prodigal Son is simple enough for a children's Sunday school lesson, but

the truth it contains is far more profound than most adults probably realize.

What was Jesus' purpose in teaching this parable?

Whom does each character represent?

And what should you take away from the Father's example of forgiveness?
