ill-fated voyage across the Mediterranean in March last year.

72 African migrants boarded an inflatable boat on the Libyan coastline,

bound for the small Italian island of Lampedusa only 18 hours away.

They were fleeing intense fighting between Libyan rebels and forces

loyal to Moama Gaddafi.

The area was under a comprehensive NATO air and sea blockade,

yet their vessel drifted for two weeks and was never rescued.
