I've told you this before we are actually on vacation and we are pre-taping the episodes of this

week this will be the first of five and our focus is therefore not on the daily news but on

questions from podcast listeners that we solicited and we got some really wonderful really

interesting questions from you guys and we will be delving into them all five days this week so

let's start out with Dean Miller asks I'd like to ask the group and maybe Matt more specifically

if there are any books resources about the left that do what matt's book the right does for the right

so Matt as our not only historian of the right but our historian of American ideology although

they're going to get to Christine's role as a historian of American ideology in a bit do you

have an answer for Dean Miller's question is there a book like yours about the left not really a

book that tells the story of the American left in the way that I tell the story in the right

John which is to tell the story in the full and round to try to get in all the different perspectives

over the course of in my case a hundred years or really with the American left you could

you could go back to the revolution in some ways and you could talk about the utopians and the

transcendentalists in the 19th century so there's no real book like that there is a book by Daniel

J. Flynn which came out about 15 years ago called a conservative history of the American left so

that in itself is a departure from my approach because the I'm telling the story of the right
