Well, because we're talking about the Israel issue, the other race in which Israel and Palestine

0:04.5

was really central to the differences between the candidates was in New York's 13, which is

0:11.6

in Upper Manhattan, where Darya Liza Avila Chevalier won. She's a very serious, capable,

0:19.3

accomplished, and beloved organizer. I mean, everybody that I know who knew her

0:22.3

from working, she worked on Mamdani's campaigns, on various DSA campaigns, and, you know, in the

0:27.6

Palestine Solidarity Movement, that she's just, she's fantastic. And one of the things that

0:32.7

motivated her to run, she talked about a lot, was that when her friend and organizing compatriot Mahmoud Khalil was arrested

like kind of incredible. And she's also the Canada that is driving the right, you know, the most.

1:24.9

The most crazy, yeah. But I think part of the satisfaction is that

1:28.8

so much, I think, of the New York Democratic establishments, flat-footedness, uncaring,

1:36.9

kind of indifference to the government's crackdown on pro-Palestine organizing in this city,

1:44.0

it was motivated in part, some of them

1:45.9

for ideological reasons, because they support Israel. But I think a lot of them just did it out of

1:50.2

cowardice because they thought, oh, this Israel-Palestine issue is too hot, and these crazy

1:56.8

leftist anti-Israel people are going to ruin the democratic brand. And courage is what has paid off.
