1:55.0 | Hi, everyone. I'm Nina Clark. I'm a general surgery resident currently in my research years at University of Washington, and I'm one of the surgical education fellows this year with behind the knife. |
2:04.0 | We're working on a couple of episodes that were really inspired by some recent work looking at the experience of trainees who are underrepresented in medicine. |
2:12.0 | In particular, there was a stat news article that came out last year looking at the experience of black residents that emphasized the discrimination that can lead to resident attrition. |
2:21.0 | This was supported by a JAMA surgery article from 2018 that showed high attrition rates among underrepresented and female surgical residents. Both of these will be linked in our show notes. |
