The... Season 1 had Mr Denton on Doomsday and execution. Season 2 had dust and 100 yards over the rim.

But by the time season 3 rolls around,

you'd almost think that the Twilight Zone was gradually turning into a Western anthology show.

The Passersby, the Grave, Still Valley, The Hunt, Showdown with Rance McGrew,

sort of, and now the episode that we'll be discussing tonight.

Not strictly all westerns in the cowboy sense, but certainly a marked increase in the depiction of the Old West and the more rural side of America.

We all have an idea of the Twilight Zone in our heads, that combination of words and music and images that make it what it is to each of us.

And if I think of it, the essence of the Twilight Zone on that instinctive level is more the urban

aspect of it. But the episodes that I've just mentioned and the episode we'll be

discussing tonight's show that it's about more than just the urban America and the American

countryside is just as much a part of the twilight zone as the city. And as tonight's episode

begins we'll see a couple of children who might as well be Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn,

peeking through the window of a tiny country church house as this small American town buries one of its own.
