The documentary The Last Republican tells the story of Adam Kinsinger.

On January 6th of 2021, he was an Illinois Republican congressman dumbfounded and shaken by what had happened at the Capitol.

In those initial hours, he spoke out about Donald Trump and his role in sparking the upheaval.

Eventually, he voted to impeach Trump, and he joined the Congressional Committee investigating the attack.

So the film shows how Kinsinger was shunned by his party, how it cost him his political future, how he faced humiliation and ugly threats.

And it also explores his relationship with the director, Steve Pink, a committed liberal.

They connect over a shared sense of principle and a devotion to the Chicago Cubs and Bears.

The film is this meditation on political identity and accountability, but it also has these

moments that explore alternate paths,
