Summary

While we wouldn't normally do a spoiler special for a video game, The Last Of Us Part II is no ordinary game. Therefore James Dyer, Nick de Semlyen and Amon Warmann all got together to chat about the game's major plot points and indulge in a little group therapy to help get over the trauma of actually playing it. We also invited the game's director, Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann, to share his views and talk to us about everything from the big plot twists to the game's final ending. We're also putting this one out on the regular podcast channel so that even those who don't already subscribe to our Spoiler Special podcasts can listen and enjoy. And if you do enjoy it, then why not head over to glow.fm/empirefilm and sign up for more.

Thank you, bang! Welcome to the Empire Podcast and this very special spoiler, special

0:18.0

podcast for the last of us part 2, which is neither a movie nor a TV show, but rather,

0:24.4

a video game making it the very first video game that we have deemed worthy of an Empire

0:29.2

spoiler, special podcast. However, this is no ordinary video game as anyone, I think you

0:34.3

have played it can attest. So way back in 2013, when the original last of us came out,

0:39.8

we were kind of flawed by the quality of the storytelling in this game. I think more

0:43.4

than any other game we ever played, so much so that we dubbed that the best film of the

0:47.3

year that wasn't actually a film. And now seven years on, developer Norsi Dog has kind

0:52.7

of pulled off a similar feat with the last of us part 2, and because of that, and not

0:57.4

in any way, because we all now exist in a post-outbreak wasteland where deadly clickers

1:02.1

roam the aisles of Morrison's, we've decided to take the next hour or so to dive beneath

1:06.6

the surface of the game, talk about its themes, its story beats, and its somewhat divisive

1:11.1

impact on fans, all with a little help from director Neil Druckmann. Now, I can only assume

1:17.2

that if you're listening to this, then you've already played through the game, and if

1:21.6

that's not the case and you don't want it spoiled, then you should really stop listening

1:24.4

now and go and fire up your PlayStation. This is a spoiler special podcast, there will

1:28.9

be lots of plot twists revealed, lots of discussions of things that happen in the game you have been

1:34.1

warned. Now, as a special treat, I should point out this particular spoiler special is appearing

1:39.2

on our main podcast feed and not behind the paywall where our spoiler special archive

1:44.4

usually resides. However, if you do enjoy this and you'll find yourself desperate for more

1:48.7

than you can, subscribe to the Empire Spoiler Special Podcast at glow.fm slash Empire Film,

1:56.1

where for a nominal monthly fee, you'll get access to our entire archive going back to 2012
