Alaska known until 2016 as Barrow.

It's April, spring in most places, here it is 7 degrees, 15 knots of wind.

Not to state the obvious, but it is freezing.

Ookehagmic is the very, very, very top of Alaska.

It's the northernmost city in the United States, sitting on the extreme northern edge of the North American continent.

But even saying that doesn't really capture how far away you feel.

It is otherworldly out here. Snow for miles and the sky in the snow are the same color so you basically can't see the horizon.

And if you've been following any climate news at all the past couple of years,

hearing the climate change is warming the Arctic three to four times faster than the rest of the planet

may not be surprising. What is surprising and why we're here is that Alaska is

where climate change and national security are running headlong into each other.
