In the meantime, I've been picking up right where I left off with J.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, and I'll get back to that next week with the beginning of book five.

But in the meantime, we're going to be doing a special guest episode today on a very interesting movie.

I really enjoyed the movie.

I also really enjoyed a movie and I think it's worth talking about as we will do at length now.

At length, absolutely. So the movie we're going to be talking about today is The Last Duel,

directed by Ridley Scott, which came out last year. And it's a movie adapted from the book,

The Last Duel, A True Story of Trial by Combat in medieval France, by Eric Yeager. And it's,

it's divided into three parts, telling roughly the same story from three perspectives.

And appropriately enough, the three writers were two men and one woman.

It was Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Nicole Hollif Center, kind of mirroring the structure

of the story that way.

And the obvious comparison point, I think, for this movie is Rashomon, the classic 1950

Japanese film in which a violent encounter

is retold from multiple POWs, including a dead character chiming in via psychic.

And Roshaman also pivots on the question of honor with regards to a potential rape, as the
