It's Granny Maduff, ready with a story.

So make yourselves comfy, and a little sister. They were called

Alexander and Adeline, and they loved each other very much.

They lived in a wonderful village with their father, who was a shoemaker.

And it so happened that in this village there lived a sorceress.

She was not well liked, but no one knew of her power. She was very jealous of

Alexander and Adeline, for she wanted all the attention of the shoemaker, and she thought them to

always be in her way. She secretly cast little spells upon them

so that she might be rid of the brother and sister.

But they never seemed to work,

for the children were too happy to let the little things get to them.

And so, it went on this way for quite some time.

Then, one day, Alexander and Adeline went with their friends to play in the meadow by the pond,

which happened to be just in front of the sorceress's house.
