Killing Time

As a rule, Mrs. Froy lived on the sunny side of the street. This evening, however, the long black

shadows of the elms seemed to have stretched out to reach her mind, because she was unaccountably depressed.

The sun no longer shone greenly through the creepers which muffled the windows, but she was

accustomed to gloom. For reasons of economy, the lamp was never lit until the last possible moment.
