We've been discussing a possible topic and we landed upon the idea of Jubilee, the year of Jubilee,

as we find it in Leviticus 25.

I'd like to take a step back and explain why we're going to be talking about it.

It's not primarily about politics, although it does touch upon some of the political debates

that we have among Christians today, as it's been for many, many years.

I think back to the 1970s when I was in college and I was studying scripture, learning Greek,

and also influenced by a lot of the evangelical books that were coming out of the time

including a runaway bestseller by a man named Ron Sider entitled rich Christians in an age of hunger and it was used to kind of advance

what we would probably describe as a socialist agenda and I'm not going to

wander off into those fields, but I would say this, that I discovered after reading Cider, not only that he was misinterpreting Leviticus 25, but he was part of a much larger company of people who misinterpret

Leviticus 25 in terms of the redistribution of wealth. When in fact if you

read Leviticus 25 closely it's not even close to welfare

redistribution of land or wealth it really is about family restoration.
