I'm Neil McCready, joined as always by Josh Hendrickson, Chair of Economics at the University of Mississippi.

We're recording this on Thursday, January the 9th, some 12 to 14 hours

before the beginning of what may or may not be snowpocalypse 20, 25. We don't know. I don't get

as upset, Josh, at weather people when they get it wrong. It's hard. You're predicting weather and the

weather can move. Things can change. But I'm always struck if the weather people get it completely wrong, everyone loses their mind. If you get a prediction on a college football game wrong, you never hear the end of it. Right. The weather people, it's like, oh, it's okay. Hey, something happened. It was different. Football game doesn't go the right way. You said, I'm always mused by that. How are you? Pretty good. My dad's favorite story to tell about me when I was a little kid is apparently when I was very young. Somebody asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. And I apparently said, I want to be a weatherman because it doesn't matter if you're correct. I don't remember this at all. I had to be really young, but that's his favorite story. That's his favorite story. I can see a young Josh Henderson saying that. It's very pragmatic. All right. Happy New Year. Good to be back with you. It's been a minute since we've been going.

I'll start here. Get right to it.

Donald Trump at some point today, I assume it was after the state funeral for Jimmy Carter.

Donald Trump said that Gavin Newsom should resign as the governor of California, that this is all his fault.

Do you agree?

On both or either of those counts?

I mean, I think that when you look at what's going on in California,

this is just a prime example of the culmination of choosing people based on criteria other than competence.

So there are things that you need to work in society, right?

Like you need your electrical grid to run.

You need your fire hydrants to have water, right?

Like you just need certain things

to work. And the problem is, is that like a lot of us kind of take this for granted because there

are people who go to work every day and they make sure that these things work. And the problem

that we have in California is that, well, and it's not just California.

It's all over the place.

But a key problem in California is that you just have all of these people who actually don't know how things work.
