I have a confession. When I sat with my coffee and the Sunday times, I read intensely

to see the level of the threat facing Theresa May. I've described Tim Shipman, the political

editor of that paper as being the person who dispatches from the front line you have

to read. The truth is, I scarcely noticed the hyperbolic language about turning a hot

knife in the Prime Minister, or that she should carry her own noose to a meeting of the Backbench

1922 Committee. Maybe I've been in this game so long and heard so many of those sorts of

violent metaphors that it didn't really occur to me, quite how offensive it was. It took

others to point it out and point it out they did. The Prime Minister and I have had many

disagreements on many things, but I stand with her completely against the violent, dehumanising

and frankly misogynistic language. I see that I hope the whole House will condemn because

it denies every single one of us. That was Labour's event, Cooper, one of many MPs who

raised the issue with the Prime Minister in the Commons on Monday. And this is my guest

on the podcast this week, Labour's Shadow Chancellor John McDonald, who tells me that his

mum's hold him to always be kind. The key thing in politics at the moment is about

yes the nature of our language and I'm incredibly careful now, incredibly careful about what I

say, but also is the way we treat one another. There is an element of respect that we need

to have to one another. I agree and we're all learning lessons on that, definitely.
