with sadness saw the news about Tom Smothers passing away and we noted

earlier in the show that you know people of a certain vintage watch the Smothers Brothers show or certainly know Tom and Dick Smothers.

Those of other vintage don't know whether it's Smothers or Smothers or I don't know who he is.

It's, and that's just, but these guys, the Smothers Brothers, were a big part of the television landscape at a time that America was involved in a lot of things that were controversial.

And they were funny.

They would come on, obviously, as brothers, but with a sort of sweet folk music, which was also popular at the time.

You know, the artists in the late 60s and early 70s, but particularly the mid to late 60s,

that folk rock music was really big.

You know, again, you hear about everything that emerged out of Laurel Canyon and, you know,

the world of Crosby's Talesills and Nash and Joni Mitchell and, etc.

Right.

So you have James Taylor.

So when they come on with a guitar and a bass, I believe, it was sort of consistent with the time.

And then they slide into performance.

They were really hot across variety shows.

So, you know, everything from the Tonight Show to the Flip Wilson show.

It's all part of bringing the Smothers Brothers to a national audience, and then, of course, they got their own show.
