Today's teaching text comes from Micah, Chapter 6, verse 8. He has shown you, oh mortal,

what is right and good, and what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy,

and to walk humbly with your God. This is the word of the Lord.

One of Jesus' most famous parables is the Good Samaritan.

Now, for those of you who are familiar with their story, just by way of refresher, an expert in the law comes to Jesus and asks, what must he do to inherit eternal life?

And Jesus' response, first with the

Shama, that he must love the Lord, your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength,

and then he continues and says, and love your neighbor as yourself. And the expert in the law says,

that's a good answer. But then the text says that looking to justify himself, he asked Jesus, but who is my neighbor?

Jesus goes on to tell the story of the Good Samaritan. He talks about a man who's robbed and left on the

side of the street. And he happens to be on this road that's between Jerusalem and Jericho.

And he's left on the side of the street,

and first a priest comes by and then a Levi, and each of them, when they see the man, they see

him and they cross the other side of the street. Now, it's interesting that we're told

which road this is. It's from Jerusalem to Jericho. Jericho was often a place where the

priest would live and would rest and where they would go after

being stationed at the temple for a while.

So it's after a long week or month of service, they're walking back home tired.

They're exhausted.

They see a man on the side of the road and they just cross the other side of street.

Then Jesus says the Samaritan comes along.

And normally when we hear the story, we think about how, oh, the Samaritan comes along. And normally when we hear the story,
