A few years ago, I finished speaking to a group of men

when a man named Adam came up to share his testimony with me.

He told me he had spent some time in prison.

He didn't tell me what he did to be convicted.

I didn't ask.

He told me though that when he went into prison,

he was illiterate.

Couldn't read or write.

Now that's not that unusual.

In fact, about 70% of inmates would be considered illiterate.

But there was another prisoner in that prison who was a believer.

Met Adam, knew that Adam couldn't read, and offered to teach Adam how to read.

Adam accepted the invitation, and this believer taught Adam to read by using just the Gospel of

Mark, the New Testament letter, or New Testament, rather, account of the life of Jesus.

And so Adam learned to read

by reading the Gospel of Mark from beginning to end again and again and again, he read these

stories about Jesus. And here's what happened. After enough time, he didn't just learn to read

about Jesus. He became a follower of Jesus. Adam surrendered his life to Christ. He became a

Christian and was baptized there in prison.
