Everyone now has their own theory. They think they know what went wrong and when, they

their own list of heroes and villains, as we've all had to become overnight experts on

epidemiology, viral modelling and even the difference between an antigen and an antibody

test. But few people, perhaps only one, are seen in this crisis as both hero and villain.

My guest on political thinking is that person Jeremy Hunt applauded for holding this

government to account in his new role as the chair of the Commons Health Select Committee

by the very same doctors who used to berate him when he was Secretary of State for Health

for austerity and that seemingly never ending dispute with the junior doctors. Jeremy Hunt,

It is a year since I talked to you after you had announced in the pharma herald that

you were running to be conservative leader and prime minister. Do you now look back with

frustration that you are not able to do that job or thanking God that you lost?

Definitely a bit more of the latter than the former. I look back on that period as,

curiously, a very happy period and I went into that contest feeling pretty nervous. You

never quite know whether you are going to be up to it actually and I came out of that

contest actually having really enjoyed myself in the process. I probably didn't have enormous

pressure on me because there wasn't much expectation that I was going to win. Did you ever

think you could win?

There was a definite movement in my direction during the course of the campaign. I think

without Blomomone Trump it I think most people thought I did pretty well at the hustings
