Case in point, the fight against mass incarceration, which has increasingly led to

nonviolent criminals being released from prison and prison reforms that have

improved the quality of life of

prisoners including new facilities that have made detention and

incarceration a bit more humane. There is no question the anti-prison

campaign has had some success.

But a big component of that so-called success

has been its misleading nature,

whether supporters realize it or not.

Yes, prison populations are decreasing.

However, many of those prisoners are simply being moved to county jails, the population of which has exploded, as has new

jail construction. Who knew? This problem, as is argued in the writing by today's guess is partly due to the focus of

anti-prison activists on making incarceration better instead of greater

attention being brought to ideas like

decarceration and more so prison abolition.
