Hi we're pleased today to have John Ellis, who is a from columnist for the Boston Globe,

he's worked at News Corp. He has a little piece of history that we're going to talk about related to the 2000 election at the end of this interview

But mainly we're going to speak about his interesting article that he wrote about modern day Jacksonians and how they're fueling the shape

of America's politics in many ways. He has some interesting insight on that.

I don't think I've discussed enough in the various

episodes that I've had this year. There are some politics going on. This is a

show that this history on politics. It's not an interview show. We're not changing

formats by any means. I'll have another

episode on Thursday which will tell the story, a deeper story about the Iran hostage

crisis of 1980. But today I did want to talk about some current politics and

so you see former president Trump rising both in the polls for the GOP primary and caucuses and also for even the general

and inching up over President Biden.

I do believe those polls are early. John's going to have some insight into what's fueling that.

We just had that episode about the 1980 Iowa Caucus and George Bush's surprise win over Ronald Reagan. the and perhaps gotten the nomination himself. Now, you see the dynamics of Iowa,

and the only thing my kind of historical Spidey sense

is seeing out there is that expectations are so low for the other candidates whose names are not
