Christina Kaltarucci, who would normally be your host today, has been covering the midterms pretty much around the clock, so I'm

here in her place. And she will join us later, though, to talk about the election results.

But right now, right here in our Brooklyn studio, I'm joined by one of the hosts of By the Book, Kristen Meinser.

Hey, Kristen. Hi, so glad to be here. Thank you for coming in. And by WNYC producer extraordinaire and former ways producer, Verlin Williams. Hey, Verlin. Hey, June. Hey, Kristen. How you doing?

All right. So we're taping as we usually do early on Wednesday morning. And I'm wondering how much sleep you both got. Oh, my gosh. I slept less than six hours. I was at an election party that was pretty rowdy. And then eventually I'm like, I got to go home. I need to get some sleep. I'm going to be on the waves tomorrow.

And then, of course, I stayed up half the night with my phone. Yeah. Just reading everything coming in on my phone. What about you? While you all, because I was, we were on email chain and you guys were

emailing like, look at this Twitter. I was doing all that from my bed and I was watching one of the

holiday movies.

Oh, yes, yes. Way to self-care. I opted out of all the election parties. I was trying to be really sensible, a bit like you, Christend, except I was even more sensible because I'm like, I got to stay and I've got to watch CNN. I've got to watch B&S. And I, you know, I did. I turned off the TV at like 1130 and I'm, okay, I'm going to bed and I'll just get up early tomorrow and read about it. But of course, like, you're so curious and pumped. It was impossible to sleep. So no matter how sensible I tried to be, that was not actually impossible. On today's show, we're going to talk about the election results with Christina.

Then we'll discuss the women-targeted holiday movies that take over entire cable channels at this time of year. And finally, how Brazilian women are responding to the election of President Jaip Bolsonaro and unrepentant misogynist, racist autocrat.
