This week, to astonishingly little fanfare and not much news coverage, there were new checks being introduced at the British border for goods coming in from the EU.

Flowers, delicatessen products, meats, you name it. They now have to be checked before they can get into the country.

Putting additional cost on it for importers and making life more complicated.

Yeah, it had been delayed five previous times. This week, it all happened. But very little

has been said about this moment by either political party. And today, we're going to ask, why not? Welcome to the newsagents.

The Newsagents. It's John. It's Emily. And this is going to be a big moment for importers,

for haulage companies, for people who are driving the lorries, for anyone who is

trying to essentially get food from the EU into the UK. And it's also going to almost certainly

be a big moment for consumers, because whether they trace this back to Brexit and the Brexit

checks or not, they're going to see prices go up or availability go down.

Something else happened today, which is that the OECD produced figures for what the growth forecasts are

for the most powerful economies in the world, the G7 economies.

And guess which country is at the bottom of the league table in terms of projected growth?

France. No.

Germany? No. Spain? No.

Spain is not part of the G7.

Sorry.

Italy.

No.
