Hello, thank you for joining me today for Give Him 15.

0:05.8

I love many of the church's hymns.

0:09.7

However, some of my greatest memories from the early days of the charismatic Jesus people movements

0:17.2

are singing the praise and worship choruses, as we called them. We referred to them as such because

0:25.1

they were typically short, like the chorus of a hymn. Some were only one word, like the hallelujah

0:32.6

chorus. They rarely had verses. The simplicity of these songs was part of Holy Spirit's brilliant plan.

0:43.5

The young generation of that era rebelled against extravagance and form.

0:49.5

We wanted things simple, real, sometimes to a fault, like living in communes and wearing few clothes.

0:59.2

When we came to Jesus, the Holy Spirit gave us simple songs.

2:00.1

day was taken from Psalm 20, verses 6 through 8.

2:05.2

Now I know I that the Lord saveth his anointed. He will hear him from His holy heaven

2:11.2

with the saving strength of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some at horses, but we will remember the name

2:21.3

of the Lord our God. They are brought down and fallen, but we are risen and stand upright.

2:30.8

The primary portion of the song was verse 7, some trust in chariots and some in horses,

2:37.1

but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. It drove into my heart the revelation that

2:45.6

we must look to the Lord first for our provision, protection, and strength. We would do well to remember this today.
