I made a show in England called Southcliffe, which was about the fallout of a shooting,

and it's entirely about grief.

And so in a way, when I started this, I was like, this isn't about grief.

This is about the absence of grief.

What happens to people when they don't deal with it, when they don't talk about it,

when they don't say what they're really feeling?

They just sort of follow this trend of manliness of not speaking about how you feel and not crying.

And that to me was the real story.

That was the, you know, this mold of by the Directorsctors Guild of America.

In this episode, a father and his sons make professional wrestling history and director Sean Durkin's biographical drama, The Iron Claw.

The film tells the true story of the Von Erick brothers, who made history in the intensely

competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s. Through tragedy and triumph,

and under the shadow of their domineering father and coach, the brothers seek larger than life

immortality on the biggest stage in sports. In addition to the Iron Claw, Durkin's other directorial credits include the feature films

Mary Last Seen, Martha Marcy May Marlene, and The Nest, the TV miniseries Southcliff,

and episodes of the television series Dead Ringers.

Following a screening of the film at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles, Durkin spoke with

director Catherine Hardwick about filming the Iron Claw.

So I think I read that you were really attracted to this for a long time.
