With a conversation today with Mark Duntleman, you may have heard of him recently.

He's the author of a new book called Why Nothing Works, Who Killed Progress, and How to Bring It Back.

It's one of several books right now that Democrats are looking at as they find themselves out of power on Capitol Hill at the White House, with the argument being that nothing works

in blue states.

And so that is one of the reasons voters have increasingly turned to Donald Trump and Republicans.

There's another book out by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson called Abundance.

This book by Dunkleman is Why Nothing Works.

And actually, it was a subject of a conversation I had recently with Richie Torres,

a Democratic congressman, who says that a lot of top Democrats are looking at this book,

Why Nothing Works, as a prescription for what Democrats need to do if they want to regain

the trust of voters again and be able to build things.

And so we discussed basically how Democrats got here, how they got from the era of voters again and be able to build things. And so we discussed basically how

Democrats got here, how they got from the era of FDR nationally Robert Moses in New York,

building all these things across New York. And then what happened in the 1960s and 70s that led

Democrats to a situation where they created so much red tape, they can't build anything anymore.

And how we got to the situation we are in

in New York with Penn Station, how California got to the situation where it can't build high-speed

rail. I think you'll find this conversation fascinating, both as a historical look at how we got here,

but also as a understanding for what has been happening among voters, what's happening in Washington, what

Donald Trump is promising, what Democrats need to do if they ever hope to have the majority again

and actually be able to build things, especially as we continue to see across the country,
