the parenting road alone. Hey guys, welcome to Pardon the Mess. I'm glad that you were with us

today. We are talking about our sons and raising them intentionally

between the ages of adolescence into adulthood and doing that well. And if you have a son

that's a teen or a preteen, then you're on the edge of your seat with me because we know that it's

not the easiest thing in the world to communicate with these lovely darlings.

It goes from like normal, fairly normal communication to like grunt language when they're in

late junior high, early high school. And I know I'm not alone in this because I've talked to a lot

of you guys. And so I'm so thankful the way of John Tyson here. He's a pastor in New York City

and he's written a book called The Intentional Father. It's raising sons of courage and character. It could also be called the intentional

mother because it's just good application for being intentional as we raise our boys. Here's a

little sneak preview of what you're going to hear today.

Involved parents have general wisdom and then they give their kids general wisdom, biblical wisdom, life wisdom,

financial wisdom. But it doesn't quite go far enough because to be intentional, you've got to

ask the question, who is this kid that God has given me? What is their personality? What is their

call? What is their needs? And so I spent a lot of time trying

to help my kids understand who they were and then me understand them and then consciously design

a path to release their destiny, not just hand out generic wisdom. And there's lots more where

that came from. You are going to love John Tyson as we talk about raising sons of courage and character.
