This was 1976.

I got a phone call.

My Sergeant Major, he called me up and he says,

Hey Mike, they're forming a new unit down at Fort Bragg, North Carolina,

and they're looking for six EOD people, and they said,

can you come to Fort Bragg in two days?

And I said, sure.

And that's how I got into Delta.

You know I've had a few Delta guys on the show over the years and to have the privilege

of you know sitting down with one of the original guys is just humbling to say the lead.

I posted that picture that was my retirement picture I took. I think some people saw it and were

surprised or whatever. I don't know what people expect what a soldier is supposed to look like,

especially in special operations. I think they draw a lot of conclusions from all the movies that they see. To your knowledge, do you know if the selection, when you went through basically the exact same as it is today?

The selection is done by carrying a heavy rucksack, carrying your weapon in your hand, carrying a mapping compass in your other hand,

and going over the roughest terrain that you can go and

it's all timed. The only motivational factor you have is yourself. You're looking for a person

that does not know the meaning of the word quit.

I have to ask what your thoughts were here recently with the Maduro raid being your former unit.
