At the dinner held September 30th, Cato's Clark Neely spoke with Innocence Project founders

Barry Sheck and Peter Neufeld and executive director Christina Swarns.

Recognition of its work to ensure liberty and justice for all by exonerating the wrongfully

convicted and advocating reforms to restore

accountability to the criminal justice system in accord with the principles of a

free society and constitutionally limited government, awarded this 30th day of September 2021.

Barry, I'd like to start with you.

Obviously, we all understand the importance of getting innocent people out of prison or off of death row,

but there's a more systemic point for the Innoc projects work.

Can you tell us about that?

From the very beginning we understood that getting an innocent person out of

jail was you know fantastic but the real question was how do they get there in the first place?

And what are the root causes that make this happen in our system?
