It's not easy to admit it, but we all have blind spots in our parenting and sometimes one of the best gifts that God can give you is someone gently points out those blind spots and you get to make a healthy correction.

I'm John Fuller joined by Danny Huerta. He's the head of our parenting department here at Focus on the Family and Danny's going to tell me about my

blind spots after we hear from Rhonda Stoppie. She shares some amazing

lessons that she learned from having other parents speak into her life and here now is

Rhonda with Jim Daly. Yeah one of the things that you mentioned in your book

Moms Raising Sons to Be Men is the need the necessity for moms to be mentored by other women, especially

older women.

I think you call it the mommy club.

Describe that because in our culture today it's hard to

connect that way because lives are busy there's always a to-do list that's longer

than time and so how would you encourage a young mom of boys to find that mommy club?

For me, I knew I wasn't the mom I meant to be and I knew I was just putting out fires. I wasn't guiding their hearts. I was just

surviving. I was just wanting them to obey because it made my life easier.

Just pick up your socks for goodness sake how hard is that and I was

insulted when they wouldn't do it and I found that I was walking around expecting them to measure up from my expectations and when they didn't

I felt offended by them or I put too much in my schedule any given day.

It's funny because I've got 10 grandchildren now and Steve and I just

watched a two-year-old and a one-year-old no two-year-old and a three-year-old and then as we

drop those off we watched the another two-year-old and four-year-old of

the other daughters and all I did was sit with them. All I did was play with them.

Very different approach. Right and it's like that. Don't do that.
