This is Cardinal Francis George, and I invite you to join me for the next few minutes to

reflect with Father Robert Barron on the Word of God, which is the Word on Fire.

Father Barron will challenge us to open our hearts to the Word on Fire, which is God's

Word of Love for each of us.

If our hearts are open, the Lord can change and transform us, so that we might speak with

love about the one who is love.

The Archdiocese of Chicago through the generosity of Sacred Heart Parishing Winnetka now presents

the Word on Fire.

Friends today we really have one of the great passages in the Gospel of John.

During the first cycle of the Lenten readings, we hear these terrifically powerful spiritual

passages from John, and the first one today is the story of the woman at the well.

The image of thirst is used throughout the Bible.

It's a wonderful image for our thirst for God.

Remember the Psalmist says, as the deer yearns for flowing streams, so my soul thirsts

for you, my God.

That's great.

It's thirst.

It's so elemental.

It's such a basic desire.

When you're really thirsty, you come in from a hot day, you've been exercising, there's

something that's just demanding about that.
