While at the heart of both Christmas and the Christian worldview is the incarnation, the idea that God took on flesh, and in Christ, became fully human.

It's a mystery, to be sure, but as humanity journeys even further into this digital age, the idea of the incarnation will only become increasingly strange.

This virtual world of high-speed internet, social media, smartphones,

and the cloud is increasingly disembodied. And that makes it even harder to imagine why God

would need to take on flesh in order to save the world. Couldn't he have just uploaded a software

update for our human hearts remotely?

Why would God need to preach in person to just a few thousand people at most when instead he could have posted on social media, slid into our DMs

and set up a Zoom meeting if he just waited a couple centuries?

Why bodily resurrect rather than just update our consciousness over the cloud.

Well, the reason, as C.S. Lewis argued in his book, Miracles, is that the incarnation

is at the very center of God's redemptive plan for the world.

As Lewis said, quote, the central miracle asserted by the Christians is the incarnation.
