Summary

After talking to Hoffman Tactical about their firearm projects, and doing some design work on a future fighting pistol ourselves, we wanted to dive a little bit deeper into firearm development. We review David S. Findlay's Firearm Anatomy series, talk about the different ways that physical constraints and political constraints affect how guns get designed and built, and do some Q&A with the comments on the last T-Rex Labs video.

After talking to Hoffman Tactical about weapon and design and then doing a little myself on the T-Rex Labs

0:06.4

YouTube channel, I think we're going to dig a little bit deeper today.

0:16.0

Welcome back to another T-Rex talk. We're going to be discussing a few books. If you've been paying attention to

0:22.3

past episodes, last week we talked to Tim Hoffman of Hoffman Tactical, and he is doing some really

0:29.8

interesting design in the field of 3D printed firearms, which generally for him involves

0:36.5

a couple of different things. Either he is taking

0:40.4

existing off-the-shelf parts and modifying them so they can be 3D printed, which usually

0:45.5

involves reinforcing parts that are meant to be metal so that they work a little better in

0:49.4

plastic. Or occasionally, which we didn't talk about a whole lot when we had our conversation, he is making

0:55.7

new parts that do slightly different things like his super safety. If you don't know about his super

1:01.9

safety, all I will say is that it is super safe. It adds some functionality to a weapon, but I'm not

1:10.4

going to go into a whole lot more details.

1:13.2

But as I talked to him, I was also thinking through the script for a T-Rex Labs video,

1:20.3

which has been posted last week, Friday morning, and that is called the Future of the Fighting Handgun.

1:26.6

And it went into some really

1:29.3

superficial detail on how future pistols might be made based on new trends in optics and in

1:37.8

suppressors and potentially in materials and manufacturing technology. And that is a relatively popular video. It's nothing compared to

1:47.4

some YouTube videos, but it's so far the most popular T-Rex Labs video. It's collected the most

1:53.7

views in the shortest amount of time. So obviously this is a topic that people find interesting,

1:59.2

which means it's worth doing another episode on. But the main reason I

2:02.8

wanted to do a T-R-X talk episode is to talk more about the three books that I mentioned in the

2:09.6

T-R-X Labs video. These are three books that are written by David S. Findlay, which is a, it is a series.
