Nikki Jaboor the award winning author of bestselling books the year on vegetable gardener

groundbreaking food gardens and veggie garden remix she also has a radio show that I

was fortunate enough to be on at one point in time called a weekend gardener she blogs

over at savvy gardening she does a lot in the gardening world let's just say that and

all the links will be in the podcast description and so today I think you guys listening

for a long time know that flowers are something that I had undervalued and now I feel that

I am redeeming myself a little bit I'm growing flowers and I'm like cutting them up and

making little bouquets like what's going on with me I don't know what transformation

is happening in my life right now but I'm here for it and and Nikki this is something

that you've been doing quite a bit of and I would love to hear why you're growing

the ratio that you're growing you say you have about eighty five percent vegetables

in your garden and then fifteen percent flowers yeah and you know I have to say Kevin

I also have become like you know first I was like this is a food garden and I was

a bit of a snob about it and you know I learned a lot from my good friend Jessica Wallister

I loved when you interviewed her in your podcast that was fantastic and she wrote an award

winning book called attracting beneficial bugs to your garden and it kind of changed my

mentality be my mentality a bit on including flowers and flowering herbs in my garden so

when I started really incorporating a lot of these plants in my garden and you know so

as you mentioned the one eighty five percent food plants the fifteen percent flowers

I had far fewer insect problems you know from everything from aphids and squash buds

and kick over beetles just because there was so many more beneficial insects in my garden
