They make three soil mixes, two of which I've used. They make a Freya's mix,

0:29.6

which is a really supercharged soil that I talked about in my first episode with Paul about how that

0:36.4

really created some pretty insane cabbages. The cabbages grew like crazy and they were quite healthy.

0:42.4

So really, really cool. It's a no-till

0:45.8

regenerative agriculture style approach to soil making. So yesterday we talked about the

0:50.6

logic that went into actually making that soil mix in the first

0:53.5

place and now we're going to talk about some finer details of of soil

0:58.5

mixtures and so today Paul I thought it would be be interesting to really talk about soil moisture specifically,

1:05.7

but there's also some other variables at play.

1:07.6

You were telling me that there's a specific percentage of soil moisture that you found to have really good results in your years as a cannabis cultivator.

1:16.3

Sure, yeah, thanks Kevin. In the years of cannabis cultivation in raised beds and living soils.

1:24.0

I found that a range of 60 to 65% of the water holding capacity,

1:29.0

so that's your soil moisture.

1:31.0

The water occupies about 60 to 65% of the poor space.

1:36.8

We talked yesterday about poor space and proper infiltration of water, but it's so important to keep soils properly hydrated

1:46.4

in that 60 to 65% range because it maximizes the microbial activity.

1:52.0

Now, all of the soil microorganisms

1:55.1

they require a few things oxygen and water so the the nutrients that that are

2:01.8

taken up by the plant are in a solution and the biology that swim through the soil so to speak really thrive and function at their their optimum levels within that range of 60 to 65% of a water filled poor space.
