Summary

Alcoholic, me? Not on your Nelly! On this Episode of Sober Awkward Vic and Lucy discuss the impact of words related to sobriety. During the chat they discover how some words support recovery, and how others can actually derail it. For some people (including Vic) being called an 'Alcoholic' felt extreme and didn't represent the sort of drinker she was, but for Lucy, that word gave her strength, identity and eventually enabled her to address her drinking habit. So, todays episode is an opportunity to help you untangle some of these controversial words and find ones that fit your personal path to lasting sobriety.

Lucy, Lucy, Alan's just falling over.

1:24.8

Oh God, what's he doing?

1:26.6

What are you doing, Alan? Make him a Halloween costume. Oh, God, he's got a box on his head, Vic. Why have you got a box on your head, Alan? I think, what you've done is you've cut the eye holes out in the wrong place. You can't see where you're going. Get up.

1:47.6

Dear idea, that's not going to be the best costume, is it? I'm a little bit worried about his four kids this evening when he goes trick or treating.

1:53.8

I hope he's done a better job with the kids' costumes.

1:56.6

Yeah, I mean, that's not very impressive, is it?

1:59.1

He's just got an old box off the tip. Yeah, two holes in it that are lined up with his forehead. Oh, too funny. We're in the spooky booth, aren't we today, Lucy? Yes, it's Halloween. Happy Halloween, everybody. Yeah, my kids are older, so I can get out of trickle treating. Yeah, I'm not getting out of it.

2:18.9

Yeah, neither's Alan. So you guys would all be out pacing the streets, begging strangers for lollies.

2:26.9

Yeah, at least we can hide our sad faces under masks. And cardboard boxes. Yes. Very poor

cardboard boxes. How are Very poor cardboard boxes.

2:35.4

How are you, Lucy?

2:50.4

Very well, thanks, Vic. Really well. In fact, we're recording this in a morning, aren't we? It's our first time we've done a morning podcast. We usually speak in the evening. So we feel a bit sort of topsy-turvy, but good. It's nice. Yeah, we just had breakfast, actually, didn't we? We had a veggie special, didn't we? Two pieces of toast with the poached eggs because there's nothing that annoys me more than people serving two eggs and one piece of toast. You were very specific about that with the waitress. I have to be. I don't go out for breakfast very often, so I definitely want my two pieces of toast. And I went wild with the butter. She went mental. I'm going to post the picture of the amount of butter, Lucy on. I mean, we do like our treats, us sober people. Yeah. I will have as much butter as I want. I'm sober. Yeah. You could lather your body in it and swim the channel. I bloody well will if I want. I'll help you. Oh, thanks, Vic. And I'm very well, thanks. And yeah, great to be here in a morning.
