Here, ahead of today's conversation, a little bit of context.

We're talking today to two Amnesty International Researchers about the Qatar World Cup, you'll have heard about many of the issues.

So in this conversation we touch on LGBTQ issues, issues of freedom of expression, human rights, and especially on the migrant workers who

built the stadiums, the roads, the railways, the metro's that will be used over the next four weeks. Keep them in mind as you enjoy the football and enjoy

this conversation. So I'm here with May Romanos and Fabian Goer who are researchers at Amnesty International.

Thanks very much for having us. Yeah, Fabian, long time listening, first time caller. So thank you very much for

introducing us. I do appreciate it. And it it's conversation I wanted to have for a while

really because I think like many fans I have some cognitive dissonance about this World Cup but I have

many many many memories as a kid growing up about the World Cup and how magical it is and then I think people have paid a price for this World Cup and anyway so let's start from the top

You're you're from Amnesty International May. Tell us about the

organization and your role within it and how you focus on Qatar. Thank you so much

head and happy to be with you and Sabia today. So yeah I've been working with Amnesty International

for the past 12 years a bit over focusing mainly on the media region working as

human rights researcher on the Gulf in particular.

Initially started working on Saudi Arabia,

Katarian and Oman, but then in 2017 moved

to a focus fully on the situation of migrant workers and the lead of the

2022 World Cup.
