Hold hands, close your eyes. It's half past midnight, and you're listening to the ghost

0:24.8

guys. Welcome to the ghost story, guys. I'm Brennan Store. I'm Paul Bestel. And this is the show

0:34.8

where we talk about spooks, spectres, and all the other things watching us from the shadows beyond

0:38.8

the campfire. Some conversations only make sense after the sun has set, and this is most definitely

0:44.8

one. Thanks for tuning in. This is episode number 104, and we're coming you from that tiny mountain

0:50.2

cabin you dream about, but can never quite reach. Welcome back to the cabin, Paul. How you doing?

0:56.1

I'm very well. How's yourself? I am good. I am good, but I am good for, well, I'm good for several

1:01.3

reasons. One, because we're doing our first listener stories episode of the new year. And I do

1:07.3

really love doing those. We have a massive, massive backlog of stories, but that's a great,

1:12.8

as far as I'm concerned, it's a good problem to have. Yes. But I'm also good, because I have recently

1:19.2

begun experimenting with a new way to treat my depression. And that is, I've been micro-dosing

1:26.0

psilocybin. And yeah, so for our listeners who don't know, psilocybin is the stuff that makes,

1:32.3

well, it's the magic in magic mushrooms, basically. It's a psychoactive chemical, but the idea being

1:38.4

that if you dose it at very, very small levels, you don't get the high, but it can help kind of

1:44.3

rewire your brain if you sort of, you kind of have to work at it as well in terms of dealing with

1:48.7

your issues. And I got more issues than TV guide. But at the same time, it, yeah, it can help you

1:55.2

kind of dig out some of the grooves that we carve in our brain with depression. Because, you know,

2:01.0

depression, obviously, we've talked about this many times on the show before, but in a lot of ways,

2:04.4

it's like bad wiring. You kind of carve a groove in your brain with repeated behaviors, repeated

2:09.7

negative thought patterns. But there's emerging research to show that psilocybin, when, again,

2:14.4

when dosed properly in small amounts, can help you slowly work your way out of those grooves.

2:19.9

And so, yeah, so I've been doing that for, I guess, I'm in my second week now. So it's too
