The last couple of studies, we have looked at the Holy Spirit first in the Old Testament in

the first mention in Genesis chapter 1 and then in the New Testament of what the

Lord Jesus promised in John chapter 14 that the comfort or the spirit of truth

would come so we see that the Holy Spirit is is woven throughout all of Scripture

in the Old Testament he is referred to as the Spirit of the Lord. We understand that he is

literally connected to the work of the Lord in this world. In fact, the Old Testament tends to

emphasize his power at work in the creation. And we see him, of course, in the prophecies all throughout the Old

Testament scripture. He is called the spirit of the Lord God. He is called of the spirit that was upon

Moses. And Nehemi refers to him as thy good spirit. David in Psalm 51 refers to him as thy free spirit. I like that. All these adjectives

tell us more about his nature and about his work. The prophet Ezeko referred to him as a new

spirit that would come. Isaiah refers to him as the spirit of wisdom, and we understand that all

wisdom comes from him. Again, Isaiah calls him the spirit of wisdom and we understand that all wisdom comes from him. Again,

Isaiah calls him the spirit of understanding, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

Zachariah refers to him as the spirit of grace and supplications. And on and on and on we could go.
