Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for as we join our rosary to the thousands of others for all of the

loved ones submitted to our prayer list for their deeper conversion and for their well-being and mind,

body, and soul. Many of you know that for more than five years I've been suffering from a mysterious

muscular skeletal problem that can make it difficult to breathe, and some days very uncomfortable.

This last few weeks, I've been in more pain than usual.

Then today I dropped my middle daughter, Grace, off at the airport as she headed back to Baltimore where she lives and works.

This left me profoundly sad.

Why does God allow pain and sadness?

What is their purpose, and what are we to do with them?

Today is the feast of the martyrdom of the holy innocence,

those little children whom King Herod murdered in his effort to prevent Jesus from becoming king.

Their feast day teaches us what to do with pain and sadness.

It teaches us to think about heaven and that we should offer up our pain to help Jesus save souls.
