Welcome to our rosary meditation. Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for, especially praying for Troy Bettis, a young father who is really struggling with

appendix cancer.

So let's all lay siege to heaven for the healing of this father, Troy Bettis.

But we also offer this rosary for the father of Dave Staples,

one of the great instructors for the School of Faith in Cincinnati.

And we're offering this rosary for my parents,

Art and Earl of Shurzlick, for their 58th wedding anniversary and for the intention of Kendall Knoll.

Now let's pause for a moment and you can call to mind your own intentions and I encourage you to voice them out loud if you're praying with others.

So why does God allow pain and sadness?

What is their purpose, and what are we to do with them?

Today's feast, the martyrdom of the holy innocence,

those little children whom King Herod murdered in his effort to prevent Jesus from becoming king,

they help us to answer these questions.

Now, Frank Sheed makes a striking point.

The children massacred and their parents who experienced the pain of their loss

are the only people who

suffered in order to save God's life.

By their death, Herod believed he had killed the Messiah, the newborn King of the Jews,

and thus Jesus was saved.
