In order to live a holy lifestyle, believers must first understand the holiness of God.

There is no one place that puts all of the meaning of the holiness of God together.

Yet if you looked in your Bible, you'd find somewhere around 700 times the more that the word holy is used.

Holy, holiness, holiest.

But I believe my favorite passage about God's Holiness is Isaiah chapter 6.

The vision he saw at this particular time and the understanding that he perceived of the holiness of God.

And he begins by saying in verse 1,

In the year the king, Isaiah died, I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne high and lifted up and his train filled the temple.

Above it stood the seraphims, each one had six wings, with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he did fly.

In one cry unto another and said, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts.

The whole earth is full of his glory.

And the post to the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

Then said, I, woe is me, for I am undone because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips.

For my eyes have seen the king, the Lord of hosts.

Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having alive coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar.

And he laid it upon my mouth and said, Low, this hath touched thy lips, and thy aniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.

Also I heard the voice of the Lord saying, whom shall I send? And who will go for us? Then said I, hear my, send me.

Isaiah had a vision of the Lord at the death of King Isaiah, and I believe that one of the reasons God gave Isaiah this particular vision was not only to issue him a call to do something,

but also I believe to encourage his heart. Because he had already seen, Eusiah's grandson, Ahaz, began to rule, and he had seen the evil direction which he was headed.

And at a time of great discouragement and disillusionment, maybe in the life of Isaiah, as he looked at his people, God gave him a vision of himself, and it's interesting that that vision was a vision of the holiness of God.
